FEATURES & BENEFITS Caters for Different Types of Learning
Basic Training This support is implemented
in the system through the various modules that are integrated with the
job oriented simulation training. For example, the 'Preliminary Training
Module' is for the trainee who needs to learn basic process control
skills. There are four simple process control loops (temperature, pressure,
flow and level) that allow the user to change set-points and outputs,
manipulate and evaluate controller states, and ustilise trend data.
Another module is the 'Reference
Section' that the trainee can refer to for information on a range of
topics applicable to process control. This provides information to supplement
the operator's existing knowledge for performing the jobs and tasks
in the simulation system. Worked examples are provided
to guide traineešs through both using the computer-based systems and
apply appropriate control strategies. Worked examples are an important
type of learning because trainees can follow the strategy an expert
would use but without the trainees having to cope with active problem
solving themselves. The benefit of catering for
different types of learning is that individual learning needs and preferences
are allowed for, leading to easier and more comprehensive learning.
Whether the trainee's learning preference is "hands-on", basic concepts,
guided instruction, expert demonstration or underlying theory, the addition
of these various support systems helps the user to efficiently build
an appropriate mental model of a process control system. |
